Chief Executive Officer

About the role

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC), a not‑for‑profit insurer serving over 800 healthcare organisations across Canada. Reporting to the Board, the CEO sets strategic direction, ensures disciplined execution, and safeguards the organisation’s financial and risk stewardship.

Key responsibilities

• Define and communicate a clear strategic vision for HIROC and drive its implementation.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with Subscribers, government bodies and external partners.
• Oversee insurance risk, capital management and long‑tail risk exposure.
• Lead the executive team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability and resilience.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and governmental frameworks across Canadian jurisdictions.
• Represent HIROC publicly as a credible spokesperson and advocate for patient safety and provider needs.

Required profile

• Senior executive experience leading large, multi‑jurisdictional and technically complex organisations.
• Proven ability to inspire and align senior teams around strategic priorities.
• Strong board governance experience and sound judgment in highly regulated environments.
• Exceptional communication skills with a track record of stakeholder engagement.
