Financial Controller

About the role

Apex Mobile Media is seeking a highly motivated Financial Controller to own the day‑to‑day finance and accounting function. This hands‑on role combines detailed bookkeeping oversight with strategic financial insight for the CEO and leadership team.

Key responsibilities

• Own full‑cycle accounting: general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, AP/AR, billing support, collections, and working capital management.
• Lead month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close processes, preparing financial statements, variance analysis and management reporting packages.
• Maintain accurate financial records across business units, ensuring proper coding, documentation and reconciliation.
• Prepare cash‑flow reports, revenue forecasts, annual budgets and rolling forecasts, flagging risks and opportunities.
• Support quarterly Board of Director materials and external reporting packages with schedules, analysis and commentary.
• Manage payroll, benefits, contractor payments, expense processes and compliance for Canadian and UK employees.
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, insurance brokers, banking partners and other vendors.
• Strengthen internal controls, approval workflows, accounting policies and practical processes.
• Utilise NetSuite, Excel and reporting tools to improve accuracy, automation and efficiency.
• Partner with the CEO and leadership team to provide clear, actionable financial insights.
• Supervise and coach a small finance team while staying involved in daily execution.
• Handle ad‑hoc analysis, special projects and other finance or operational duties as required.

Required profile

• CPA designation preferred; advanced degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field is an asset.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably in media, advertising, technology or fast‑paced service businesses.
• Strong hands‑on accounting experience, including close processes, financial reporting and budgeting.
