Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial team of over 20 physicians in Nanaimo, BC. The position involves providing clinical care, trauma team leadership, and contributing to a busy, state‑of‑the‑art emergency department serving 70,000 patient visits annually.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality emergency medical care to a diverse patient population.
• Lead trauma and emergency response teams as needed.
• Participate in departmental education, research, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with specialists across major disciplines for comprehensive patient management.
• Contribute to administrative duties and departmental governance when appropriate.

Required profile

• Current certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Eligibility to practice medicine in British Columbia.
• Experience in a high‑volume emergency department is preferred.
• Commitment to teamwork, patient safety, and continuous learning.
