About the role
The Programme Management Assistant will support the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) within UNEP’s Scientific, Society and Sustainable Futures Division. Working under the Head of the Biodiversity, Science, Policy and Governance Unit, the incumbent will assist in delivering CBD processes and related projects.
Key responsibilities
- Provide programme and project management support throughout the project cycle for CBD processes.
- Track and support implementation of Conference of the Parties (COP) decisions that affect programme content.
- Coordinate with donor organisations on financing, assist in drafting budgets, forecasts and monitoring checklists.
- Serve as focal point for coordination and monitoring of assigned activities, liaise with internal units, prepare terms of reference and follow up on administrative issues such as recruitment, procurement and payments.
- Research, compile, analyse and present data on programmes and related topics, highlighting trends for senior staff.
- Review and revise submissions and responses to ensure compliance with unit guidelines and objectives.
- Draft inputs for reports, briefings, debriefings and other documentation.
Required profile
- University degree or equivalent experience in environmental studies, international relations, public administration or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work under supervision, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, with experience preparing reports and briefing notes.
- Familiarity with the CBD framework, UN processes and inter‑governmental decision‑making.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills for interaction with diverse UN units and external partners.
